The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the joint services academy of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the three services, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force train together before they go on to pre-commissioning training in their respective service academies. Candidates to the NDA are selected via a written exam administered by the UPSC every year, supported by extensive transcripts by the Services Selection Board screening general tendency, subconscious examination, team skills as well as mechanical and social skills, along with therapeutic tests. Incoming families are admitted double a year for terms beginning in July and January.
The candidate who has completed 12th in science stream with PCM subjects can apply for the NDA exam. Candidates who are appearing for the NDA exam should be physically fit. Physical fitness includes eyesight, height, weight, etc. During the training session, the stipend given is Rs 56,100.
Many girls have the dream to join NDA. Earlier only male candidates were allowed to join NDA but according to the supreme court decision, female candidates can also join NDA. Training is provided to male and female candidates who aspire to work in the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
