The Full form of IEC is International Electrotechnical Commission. IEC generally refers to the standards and protocols which an international standard organization drafts and posts. These standards are exclusively for all electrical, electronic & similar technologies which are commonly known as “Electrotechnology”. IEC standards can be set up on a diverse range of technical products like fiber optics, batteries, semiconductors, new modern power generators, home appliances, office equipment, solar power panels, nanotechnology, and many others. The IEC manages the standards at 3 levels to confirm the assessment systems. IEC also clarifies whether the system, equipment, or component lies in standards.

The IEC is made up of members, called national organizations, and each NC describes its nation’s electrotechnical businesses in the IEC. This involves manufacturers, providers, distributors and vendors, purchasers and users, all levels of governmental agencies, trained societies, and trade assistance as well as standards developers from national standards bodies. National representatives are constituted in different ways.

International Electrotechnical Commission was formed on 26 June 1906. The headquaters is located in Geneva, Switzerland. There is a total of 89 countries that are part of the International Electrotechnical Commission. Yinbiao Shu is the president of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The official languages of IEC are English and French.

The management of IEC is taken care of by SMB (Standardization Management Board). SMB is a decision-making body. IEC has a total of 60 members. The member countries are  Canada, Germany, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Brazil,  Egypt, Israel, Kuwait, Colombia, France, China, Iran, Australia, Czech Republic, Indonesia, Hungary, India, Argentina, Finland, etc.
