ESR is commonly known as Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate. ESR is to measure the rate of inflammation and test to measure sedimentation of red blood cells. It is a basic hematology test.
If a person goes to a doctor then the doctor will look after the ESR results along with the other information or other test results that will help to figure out a diagnosis. The tests will depend on their symptoms.
The doctor suggested you have a test on ESR to see how much clumping is occurring. Whereas, there are some symptoms for the possibility of ESR :
(a) joint pain or stiffness that lasts more than 30 minutes a day in the morning.
(b) headaches, particularly the pain in the shoulders.
(c) unnatural weight loss.
(d) pain in the shoulders, neck, or pelvis
(e) digestive symptoms, such as diarrhea, fever, blood in your stool, or unusual abdominal pain.
Probably there can be many risks for the ESR tests. Some complications may arise from the ESR test, those are –
• bleeding, which may increase
• infection
• fainting
• hematoma
• bruising
• inflammation of the vein
• tenderness
• lightheadedness

A blood test that detects and monitors inflammation in the body. It measures the rate at which red blood cells in a test tube separate from blood serum over time, becoming sediment in the bottom of the test tube. The sedimentation rate increases with more inflammation. Also commonly called the sed rate.

ESR is generally known as Erythrocyte sedimentation. It helps to measure the rate of inflammation to measure sedimentation of RBC (red blood cells). So you can say that it is a hematology test. But the test depends upon the symptoms they have. ESR symptoms can be headaches, unnatural weight loss, pain in the neck and shoulders, or digestion problems.

If the ESR is high then there are chances of Infection, Inflammatory bowel disease, Heart disease, Kidney disease, Certain cancers. Rheumatoid arthritis, Rheumatic fever, Vascular disease. If your ESR level is high, you should eat the following food items such as Berries, Mushrooms, Grapes, Fatty fish, Broccoli, Avocados, Green tea, Peppers. The normal range is 0 to 22 mm/hr for men and 0 to 29 mm/hr for women.
