The full form of CID is Crime Investigation Department. It is a department of the State Police Services in India that is mainly responsible for the investigation of criminal cases, based on the Criminal Investigation Department of British police forces.
CID Long Full Form
It is one of the most important departments of police organizations which is headed by the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP). Its headquarter is in Pune, and it’s some of the specific investigations are entrusted by the Govt. of India and DGP (Director General of Police). It was first formed in 1902 by the British Government to maintain law and order in the country. This department has their different ranks of officers who work with their own plainclothes rather not any specific uniform. However, the officers are called Detective or CID officers. In the year of 1929, this department was split into special Branches, CID and Crime Branch CID ( CB-CID ).

CB-CID is a special wing in a CID headed by the Additional Director General of Police (IGP). This branch investigates serious crimes including murder, riot, forgery, counterfeiting, and cases entrusted to CB-CID by ten state governments or the High Court.
