The Junior Research Fellowship is also known as the JRF scheme of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
This is for the candidates who qualify in the National Eligibility Testing (NET) of:
- the UGC and
- the UGC-Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) joint test.
JRF is known as Junior Research Fellowship. Mainly it is the program for the applicants who can qualify NET. However, the final assortment for the JRF is made by the universities/institutions/colleges. JRF scheme is to provide chances to NET-qualified contenders to do progressive studies and research leading to M.Phil. /Ph.D. Degrees in Humanities and Social Sciences
It is a fellowship in which Rs. 25000/Month + HRA is the stipend by both CSIR & UGC to the eligible and selected candidates. They are through written exams held twice a year as their stipend for doctoral studies which is useful to them in various projects The objective of the JRF scheme is to provide opportunities to NET-qualified candidates to do advanced studies and research leading to M.Phil/Ph.D. Degrees in Humanities and Social Sciences including Languages and Sciences.
Candidates who have qualified in NET or the UGC-CSIR joint test are eligible. However, the final selection for the JRF is made by the universities/institutions/colleges. The actual payment of fellowship will be made with effect from the date of joining only. It is awarded the award for one who secured good marks and applied for JRF at the time of the UGC NET or CSIR NET examination.
What is the eligibility for JRF?
The candidates who have obtained a master’s degree or equivalent with 55% marks are eligible for NET JRF. The age limit is the upper age limit is 30 years for the grant of JRF (NET), which is relaxed up to 5 years for SC/ST/PWD/female candidates and 3 years relaxation for OBC category candidates.
