The full form of NTSE is National Talent search examination. National Council of Education Research and Training conducts this National level scholarship program- NTSE in India. To identify the students with high intelligence as well as excellent academic records, this exam is conducted. Based on the scores, the deserving candidates gets the scholarship. Every year at 2 levels, this exam is conducted for awarding scholarships.

Stage 1 of NTSE is State level and selection happens basis of States/UT’s post-written examination. Once qualified in Stage 1, one can apply for the Stage 2 exam by NCERT. In both the stages, it is divided into 2 parts, which are the Mental ability test and the Scholastic Aptitude Test. The exam is offline and exams are objective type. As per recent studies, around 12 lakhs to 14 lakhs students appear for the examination, wherein only 5000 students are selected for the Stage 2 exam. In that, around 1000 are selected and awarded scholarships. The scholarship is offered for various stages, Rs.1250/month for Classes 11th to 12th. And Rs.2000/month for Undergraduates and Post-graduates. And for Ph.D., it is decided as per UGC norms. Hence, preparation of tests in an appropriate way and cracking it gives us a scholarship.
An approximated 9,00,050-10,00,050 students of Class X seem for the NTSE scholarship exam per year for the stage first from which about 5050 are chosen for the examination of 2nd stage. upon their appearance in the 2nd stage of NTSE, 1050 students are ultimately chosen for the scholarship.

A scholarship of Rs 500 per year is awarded to successful students. Students seeking admission in Science and Social Science stream is granted scholarship till the Doctorate level while students in professional courses get the scholarship till the postgraduate level. The foreign university gives preference to students who have qualified NTSE.
