The IIT conducts this on the orders from the HRD ministry and Higher Education Ministry. These two national bodies come directly under the Government of India. Also, the exam takes place for several courses like Civil, Computer, Mechanical, etc mostly in the month of Feb. 

A total of 858,890 students had applied for this GATE 2020 for all 25 subjects.
Here is a new subject also developed by Gate for applying In the exam is Biomedical Engineering in 2020.
And only 685,088 students appeared for the test (79.76%)
Fee for students-:
for Indian female, SC, ST, and physically challenged candidates fee is INR₹ 750 and
INR ₹ 1500 for all other Indian candidates.

GATE is also recognized by Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. GATE is important for Postgraduate engineering admissions, and screening for entry-level engineering jobs. The exam was first in the year 1983. There is no age restriction to appear for the exam. The validity of the GATE score is of  3 years.
