The full form of TCH is Taxotere, Carboplatin, and Herceptin. It is a chemotherapy regimen used to cure Human Epidermal Growth Factor receptor 2 which is for positive breast cancer – it is also a combination of two chemotherapy medicines such as Paclitaxel (Taxol) or Docetaxel (Taxotere), taxane chemotherapy medicines, Carboplatin (Paraplatin), platinum-type chemotherapy and a targeted therapy Trastuzumab (Herceptin). It is mainly for the treatment of breast cancer. The drugs which are used in the TC regimen are –
• Docetaxel (Taxotere)
• Carboplatin (Paraplatin)
• Herceptin (trastuzumab).
However, the most common risks of TCH are –
• Risk of Infection
• Nausea & Vomiting
• Hair Loss.
The cancer cells grow very fast and even in an uncontrolled way, whereas Herceptin works on the surface of the cancer cell by blocking or preventing the uncontrollable growth. It is important to know that women who are pregnant or planning to get pregnant should not take Herceptin, it can affect the newly developing fetus. They must visit a doctor for treatment of breast cancer during pregnancy. Also, the women who are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed should not take Herceptin which will affect the child. They must consult their doctor and come to a conclusion of choosing to breastfeed or taking Herceptin.
