Furthermore, if damage occurs to any blood vessel in our human body, there are various reactions taking place inside known as clotting factors. The reason behind why is known as clotting factors since they are the major contributors to blood clot formation. To check this ratio, the individuals take blood thinners also known as Anticoagulants or anti-clotting medicines too. The test used to identify this INR is the Prothrombin test. It helps us to know the time it takes for the blood to clot. As mentioned above, it’s a standardized number for PT. The individuals need this if they intake medicines like warfarin wherein the blood clot mechanism way differs. But generally, people take anti-clotting medicines to avoid the risk of heart attack or stroke. For example, if a person is met with an accident and blood doesn’t clot, it’s a sign of severe bleeding later on. Hence, the doctors use this INR if anti-clotting medicines are to be used or not.

What does an INR of 1.0 indicate?
A result of 1.0, up to 1.5, is hence normal. A low INR result indicates your blood is ‘not thin enough’ or hardens too easily and puts you at risk of forming a blood clot. and A high INR result indicates your blood coagulates too slowly and you risk suffering.
In normal people, an INR of 1.1 or below is examined normally. An INR range of 2.0 to 3.0 is usually an effective healing range for people taking warfarin for disturbances such as atrial fibrillation or a blood clot in the lung or leg.

When your International Normalized ratio (INR) is too high, you have an increased risk of bleeding. The most common foods that cause INR to rise are green leafy vegetables such as kale, broccoli, collard greens, spinach, cabbage, lettuce, etc. Warfarin is the medicine used for the blood thinning method.

When there is an increase in vitamin K, your International Normalized Ratio (INR) level may decrease. In opposite to that, when there is a decrease in vitamin K intake, your  INR level may get high.  The lower your INR, the less time it takes for your blood to clot.
