The full form of NABH is the National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Healthcare Providers which is a constituent board of the Quality Council in India, which is established to set up and operate accreditation programs and healthcare organizations. It was established in the year 2005 in New Delhi, India. NABH’s main role is to maintain the blood transfusion inside our body and to maintain hemovigilance. However, it was observed that there was an improvement in the quality by core indicators monitoring and it was found that there was a decrease in the wastage of blood and blood components. Monitoring of such indicators is used to be done regularly. Four core indicators that were found and monitored are –
(a) Percentage of blood component usage,
(b) Percentage of transfusion reactions,
(c) Percentage of wastage of blood and blood components, and
(d) Average turnaround time for issue of blood and blood components.
NABH’s program is to maintain the quality and safety of collecting, processing, testing, and transfusing blood and blood products. Patients get a satisfactory result from NABH Accreditation, as their aim is to give high quality of care and patient safety. The NABH Accreditation will automatically help the hospitals to come to the A category.
