What is jpeg?

JPEG refers to the format of compressing digital images that saves storage space. This was formed in 1986 and got approved in 1992.

Characteristics

 JPEG works by reducing the colour of the image  JPEG eliminates those data which cannot be noticed by the people  JPEG is considered to be most suitable method to compress the file

How is space saved using JPEG?

When the image is saved in JPEG format, the original image size reduces. JPEG compresses only 10% of the image size with a small loss in the quality.

When should JPEG be used?

JPEG is best for images as the details of the image hides the compression. JPEG finds difficulty with edges and curves.

Advantages

Disadvantages

 Quality of image gets reduce  JPEG is not for sharp edges and curves images or text  Layered images are not supported by the JPEG format Everytime you save a particular image in JPEG format, the quality of image reduces
