INTERNATIONAL NORMALIZED RATIO

Introduction

This is used to check how blood clots are formed. To know about the effects of oral anticoagulants on the system of clotting. It is calculated as INR = (prothrombin test / prothrombin control)ISI.

Why do we monitor the INR?

Effectiveness can be either decrease or increase when you are taking several drugs for the medications. Effectiveness can be either decrease or increase when you are eating something that affects your warfarin

Symptoms

 You should talk or visit the doctor if you find the following symptoms:  When you are taking supplementation as your diet.  When you feel a sudden change in your diet.  When you are taking medication which includes over-counter medications.

Medications

 You have to take many antibiotics.  You have to take some anti-cholesterol medications.  You have to take some pain relievers.  You have to take some antiepileptics.

What should my INR be?

 INR should have a range between 2.0-3.0 in Atrial fibrillation.  INR should have a range between 2.0-3.0 in Venous thromboembolism.  INR should have a range between 2.0-3.5 in INR should have a range between 2.0-3.0.

Tests

In the 1990s, portable devices were introduced for this type of test. If the test is conducted in a health facility then it displays the result on your behalf. If the test is done at home then you have to train yourself for self-testing.

Results

When results show INR is high that means that your blood is so thin. When results show INR is low that means that your blood is thick. The risk of INR is increased when the INR value is above 4.5 or less than 2.
